"The world premiere of composer-in-residence Tobias Picker's Third Symphony...brought novelty and brightness to the Houston Symphony's program...
"Picker's new five-movement symphony for string orchestra displayed many finely crafted features and moments of quite alluring music...
"The second movement is a particularly beautiful musical reflection, allowing limpid pools of clear harmony to form from a yearning chromatic progression that appears to be based upon the symphony's opening thematic motive...the total plan of Picker's symphony seems somewhat analogous to symphonic models once provided by Mozart and Schoenberg."
